Beef Khichuri

Beef Khichuri tastes extremely flavorful and luscious. Try this beef khichuri recipe which will satiate both your mind and hunger.

Ingredients

For Beef Bhuna:

  • 1 kg beef
  • 1 cup oil
  • 2-1 pcs bay leaves
  • 2-1 pcs cinnamon
  • 4-5 pcs cardamom
  • 10-12 pcs black pepper
  • 1 cup onion chopped/sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion paste
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 tbsp cumin paste
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1/2 tsp mace powder
  • 3 cups water

For Khichuri:

  • 1.5 cups moong dal
  • 2.5 cups polao rice
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • 2-1 pcs bay leaves
  • 2-1 pcs cinnamon
  • 3-4 pcs cardamom
  • 1/4 cup onion chopped/sliced
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 6 cups water
  • 5-6 pcs green chili

Instructions

Cook Beef Bhuna:

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper. Stir for some time.
  • Then add onion slice and stir until it turns slightly brown.
  • Add onion paste and stir very well until the raw smell goes away.
  • Add garlic paste, ginger paste, and cumin paste and stir very well for some time.
  • Add salt, little water, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and coriander powder. Fry until the raw smell disappears.
  • Wash, drain, and add beef.
  • Mix well. Keep stirring for 2-3 mins.
  • Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Add nutmeg powder and mace powder. Give a good mix.
  • Close the lid and cook for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Add 3 cups of hot water. Stir and close the lid. Cook for 30 mins. Take aside after 30 minutes or when beef is cooked.

Prepare Rice and Moong Dal:

  • In a different pan, lightly fry 1.5 cups of moong dal over low-medium flame. Be careful not to burn them.
  • Take the lightly fried dal into a bowl and soak in hot water for 10 minutes.
  • Soak rice in the water for 10 mins.

Cook Beef Khichuri:

  • In a pan, heat mustard oil. Add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper. Stir for some time.
  • Then add onion slice and stir until it turns slightly brown.
  • Add little water, garlic paste, ginger paste, and cumin paste, and stir until the raw smell disappears. Add salt too.
  • Wash, drain, and add rice to the gravy. Also, add the soaked moong dal.
  • Add turmeric powder.
  • Give a good mix and fry for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add 6 cups of hot water and salt.
  • Stir and close the lid. Cook for 5 mins.
  • When the water is reduced a bit add the cooked beef. Give a good mix.
  • Add green chili, and close the lid. Cook for 5 mins.
  • Cook on low heat for 15-20 mins.
  • Mix and keep it under low heat for another 10 mins.
  • Best served hot!
